India vs West Indies 3rd Test – Did Ashwin turn from a hero to a villain?

Did Ashwin turn from a hero to a villainFidel Edwards to ball the last over, Varun Aaron on strike, R.Ashwin is the non striker unbeaten on 13 not out..

For India – 6 Balls remaining – 3 Runs to win! 2 to tie a Test, anything else apart from losing 2 wickets means India draws the test match and wins the test series 2-0.

For West Indies– Either dismiss the last 2 indian batsmen or prevent them from taking 3 runs and forcing them into a draw! And thus enabling a face saving draw for Sammy and his men after getting routed for a paltry score of 134 all out on the fifth day of the 3rd test played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai

Fidel Edwards bowls 3 dot balls to Varun Aaron, On the fourth ball of  the over, due to a misfield by Marlon Samuel at Mid-off results in Aaron pinching a single and thus enabling Ashwin to play the remaining 3 deliveries to score 2 runs to give Team India a nail biting 3rd test victory over West Indies.

Ashwin tries to play a defensive shot towards legside but gets an inside edge, Edwards makes a loud appeal only for the umpire to say “Not Out” and the inside edge saves Ashwin from getting out as LBW. Now Ashwin has indeed savedIndia the match and denied victory to West Indies, 1 ball to go – 2 runs needed for a Tie!

Edwards bowls a full length delivery, Ashwin slams it to the long off region and rushes for a single, Varun Aaron the non striker is very quick between the wickets he turns quickly for a second only to see Ashwin not responding at all to the 2nd run call, Slow to start, slow to turn around. He goes for the second only when Aaron pushes him. Run out by a mile.

Did Ashwin miss a trick in the final moment and become a villain?

R.Ashwin playing his debut Test Series had a dream start to his test career from making a fine century (103) in the 1st Innings of the 3rd Test and getting 22 wickets, 9 in the 3rd test match with a career best figure of 6/47, Ashwin become the Find of the Series for Team India and surely booked his place in the Team India Test squad for the upcoming tough tour of Australia.

But all this accolades would had hold true had Ashwin shown a bit of cool temperament and running quick between the wickets and led Team India to a memorable victory of West Indies – Alas! It wasn’t to be!, and sadly for Ashwin even though he got the Man of the Match and Man of the Series Award, He certainly saved India the 3rd Test but could not lead them to victory!

This Test was being touted as the test when batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar will get his 100’th Ton and thus create one more record in Cricket history under his name and thousands of spectators gathered on the 4th day of the test match to witness this historic moment but sadly it wasn’t meant to be as Sachin fell on 94 caught by Sammy off the bowling of Rampaul, Even in the second Innings Sachin failed and was dismissed for 3 by Samuels. There was not much crowd gathered to see a fascinating 5th day’s play – A day when 17 wickets fell and suddenly a result looked very much on the cards.

A great 5th day of the 3rd Test Match between India vs West Indies attracted a very less crowd than anticipated –

The weak presence of the crowd sadly also attributes to the poor ticketing system set by the BCCI. In order to make test crickets more popular and to attract more audience to the stadiums, BCCI should ensure that tickets are priced moderately and a majority of the cricket and sports tickets should be sold online so that many people can buy tickets easily at the comforts of their home rather than standing in long queues to get tickets over the counter. is one website which specializes in selling sports tickets online, Buyers can log on easily and buy tickets to major sporting events like NBA,NFL,NHL,MLB and hockey and BCCI can easily collaborate with LavaTickets to sell Cricket tickets online and offer easy access to cricket fans to buy tickets online easily on LavaTickets.
