Future Cup 2007

India vs Australia 1st ODI played at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore

Michael Clarke’s career-best knock went in vain as rains forced the abandonment of the first one-day international between India and Australia here on Saturday.Clarke clobbered 10 fours and three sixes in his 130-run innings to propel Australia to an imposing 307 for seven in 50 overs in the day-night game.

In reply to this daunting total, India were off to a disastrous start with the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar getting dismissed for a duck – LBW off the aussie left arm pacer Mitchell Johnson

The score read India 9/1 & then the rain started in full flow and brought the proceedings to a halt. Big Efforts were made by the groundsmen to dry the ground but in vain,

as after the final inspection at 9.30 pm india time, the umpires decided that the outfield was too wet in order for the match to resume & hence abandoned the match.

Earlier in the day, Australia won the toss & elected to bat, only to see their captain Adam Gilchrist falling early with a score of 14 runs due to a splendid catch taken by Yuvraj Singh of Zaheer Khan, Brad Hodge joined Hayden at No.3 but couldnt last long as he was dismissed for a duck by Sreesanth.

Sreesanth continued his rampage & got 3 vital wickets including that of Andrew Symonds with Australia reeling at 90/4

But just when India looked like dismissing Australia for a low score, Clarke and Brad Haddin shared a crucial 5th wicket partnership of 144 runs to bail Australia out of trouble, & later James Hopes contributed a quick 37 off 25 deliveries to take the total beyond 300 which at one stage looked very difficult to acheive especially when Sreesanth had rocked the Aussie top order.
