India Cricket team victorious against Sri Lanka

India Test Squad for Sri Lanka 2022 Home Series

As the BCCI selection committee recently announced Rohit Sharma to be India’s new captain for all the 3 formats after Virat Kohli’s removal as Captain. Rohit will be leading Team India as their new test captain in the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s tour of India starts with 3 T20 international matches from 24th February when they take on India at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium. Post the 3 T20 international matches, Sri Lanka will play 2 test matches vs India starting from 4th March 2022 at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, Punjab.

4 Senior Players Dropped from India’s Test Squad

BCCI selectors have gone ahead and announced Team India’s Test squad for the home series against Sri Lanka and the biggest shocker was the axing of key senior players from the squad and the announcement of a new vice captain in Jasprit Bumrah as Rohit’s deputy for the test series vs Sri Lanka.

Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha and Ishant Sharma were not selected for this particular series as all the 4 of them were suffering from loss of form based on their dismal performance in recent test matches and the Indian chief selector Chetan Sharma felt that these four players need to play more Ranji Trophy matches to rediscover their lost form and the “doors are always open for them” for future team selection after the Sri Lanka series as per this article from cricbuzz. According to players who play online casino australia feel that India can win this test series comfortably against Sri Lanka.

Chetan Sharma the chief selector said “The selection committee put a lot of thought into it and came to the decision. We have spoken to them earlier and we have told them that we will not consider them for the two Test matches against Sri Lanka. The doors are absolutely open for them. We told them to go and play Ranji Trophy. That is the best part for both of us, such senior cricketers are going and playing Ranji Trophy… Just for two Test matches, the selectors decided to give a chance to other cricketers,” Chetan said.

On captaincy, Chetan Sharma said Rohit was the “clear choice” and will remain the Test captain as long as he’s fit and available. He also said that there were no other names on the table for Test leadership.

“Rohit Sharma is the No. 1 cricketer of our country and the most important thing is that he is playing all three formats. The important thing is how we manage Rohit and all the current cricketers are very professional, they know their body, they manage their body. With Rohit, there’s absolutely no problem at all. We will definitely talk to Rohit from time to time (with regards to rest and workload), and when we spoke, he’s absolutely okay. If a big player like him becomes a captain then automatically – even we’ve spoken about it at the selection committee – grooming captains under Rohit Sharma will be a tremendous thing for us,” Chetan Sharma said.

“For us, the longer Rohit captains we will be that much happy. We can take time-bound decisions. Anyone can be injured, there can be a problem… But for now let’s hope that everything goes right.”
