Australia defeated India by an innings and 68 runs to win the 2nd test of the Vodafone Test Series 2011-12, It was a dream match for Australian captain Michael Clarke who scored an unbeaten 329 runs in the first innings and also dismissed Sachin Tendulkar on 80 runs thereby still putting a hold on the maestro’s search for the ellusive 100′ ton. This was the 100th test played at the Sydney Cricket Ground and local boy Clarke celebrated this event by winning this 100th test match against India inside 4 days.
Ben Hilfenhaus was the star of the day by picking up 5 wickets for 106 runs which included the wickets of Sehwag, Dravid, Dhoni & Laxman, Clarke claimed the prized wicket of Sachin Tendulkar on 80 runs by having him caught at first slip by Hussey. Earlier in the day it was Siddle who broke the 3rd wicket partnership of 68 runs between Gambhir & Tendulkar by getting Gambhir caught by Warner for a score of 83.
For India, Gambir, Tendulkar, Laxman all scored half centuries but couldnt carry on for a century and a late order slogging by Ashwin helped him to raise a individual score of 62 and helped India cross 400 but sadly for India that was not enough and Australia ended the 2nd Test by winning it by Innings and 68 runs.
Michael Clarke was deservingly awarded the Man of the Match for his unbeaten triple century and the prized wicket of Sachin Tendulkar.
