Shoaib Akhtar Cleared and Ready to Play in IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders

Shoaib Akhtar has been cleared to play in the IPL after the Appellate Tribunal decided to suspend his five-year ban for one month, until they reconvene on June 4. The PCB has, in turn, granted Shoaib a No Objection Certificate to feature in the IPL, where he will play for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Lalit Modi, the chairman and commissioner of the IPL, confirmed that Shoaib will play the tournament. “We look forward to Shoaib playing for us,” Modi said. “I am going to call him immediately and invite him to come to Kolkata tonight or tomorrow morning.” Read the rest of this entry »

Shoaib Akhtar’s 5 Year Ban Upheld

Shoaib Akhtar 5 Year Ban Upheld

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was cleared Wednesday to resume his career outside the country, while an appeal tribunal considered his challenge to a five-year ban.

“Akhtar can play anywhere in the world except for Pakistan,” said Farrukh Aftab, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board appeal tribunal, told reporters.

Harbhajan Singh Banned For 11 IPL Matches

Harbhajan Singh has been banned for 11 IPL matches in a hearing here after the off-spinner slapped S Sreesanth on Friday after the game between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab was concluded. Sreesanth was seen in tears after the incident took place and was being consoled by his Mohali teammates and owner Preity Zinta.

Sourav Ganguly is the notable omission from India’s 16-member squad for the tri-nation CB Series, which starts on February 3, and the solitary Twenty20 international at the MCG on February 1. There was no recall either for Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman for the tournament, which also features Australia and Sri Lanka, with the selectors putting the emphasis on youth.
